University of Queensland

The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia’s premier learning and research institutions. Today, UQ has almost 44,000 students who study across its four main campuses in southeast Queensland: St Lucia, Ipswich, Gatton and Herston.   

Project Purpose
Establish a unified AV strategy across all campuses.  Transform the University’s traditional analogue based system into a state-of-the-art digital environment.

Project Scope:  

  • Detailed AV audit of 85 lecture theatres including room layouts.
  • Create a gap analyses.
  • Produce a detailed scope of works (SoW) for the lecture theatre audio visual equipment upgrade
  • project tender documentation.  
  • Specify the minimum requirements and standards to be met during the supply, installation, testing and commissioning phases.
  • Tender evaluation / contractor selection process.
    Post installation audit / defect inspections.

Time Frame:  
Originally scheduled as a 3 year project, this 85 lecture theatre upgrade was aggressively   compressed into fast paced 42 week rollout.

Project Details: 
Initially a thorough audit was conducted, a gap analysis was then created to identify the BoM required to successfully complete the project.  The detailed SoW was then produced along with UQ Standard documentation and installation requirements and released for tender.

UQ strive to be at the education forefront by offering a greater user experience, transforming the legacy analogue systems, into state of the art, digital academic teaching facilities. 

The existing cabling shortfalls were overcome by using an all-in-one solution that requires only 1 UTP cable to transport High Definition AV and data signals.

There were also cost and space saving benefits by utilising the latest technology from AMX. This technology also reduced the installation and programming times significantly.

Through the establishment of this AV strategy UQ can now communicate to contractors exactly what’s expected.  In doing so they are able to maintain a consistent high level of quality throughout their AV installations.
