Project: Clinical Simulation

Scope: Design & project manage the implementation of AV into:

  • Sippy Downs - 4 Clinical Teaching Spaces, 3 Control Rooms
  • Gympie Campus - 3 Clinical Teaching Spaces, 1 Control Room

Design Deliverables:

  • Integrate nurse specific medical equipment
  • Flexibility – distribute any input to any output
  • High Quality Signal Transmission
  • Control all AV via touch screens within the control room – also show outputs from medical equipment.
  • All AV infrastructure adheres to the University’s structured cabling standards.
  • HDBaseT transmitters and receivers facilitate for HD signal transmission over long cable runs
  • All video is non-compressed
  • Crestron Lighting including Dali
  • Dante transmit audio signals across the network
  • Additional outputs from Nursing have also been cabled to nearby learning spaces (which are shared with other faculties)
It was the highest level of IT/AV integration that he has ever seen.

This installation is a true global showcase for both of organisations (USC and InDesign).

Client Benefits

Usually clinical simulation AV solutions run across the shared network as they are IP based. The image is compressed, there is latency and it slows down the network for everyone. PAINFUL!

This system uses a data network to transfer AV signals, however it’s a dedicated data network – and rightfully so given its size. HDBaseT transmitters send AV signals uncompressed across the network and the result is dramatically better – full HD. The touch screens located in the control rooms, effortlessly switch between inputs and outputs –

no lag times. Both of these features make student simulation assessment easier and less ambiguous. Additionally, the content also looks significantly better when shared to other teaching spaces that have HD projectors.

There’s plenty of flexibility. Any signal can go anywhere on the AV network – even to learning spaces of other faculties (Immerse and Engage).  The Microphones transfer their signal over a standard network using Dante. So, wherever a Microphone receiver sits on the network, there’s the ability to accept and receive microphone signals. The benefit being that a Nursing facilitator at Gympie could communicate with someone in a nursing  simulation at Sippy Downs. They can also view the simulation over the internet as cameras can transmit over an IP network as well as output uncompressed HD signal locally). Cool!

What we're most proud of

Clinical simulation…like a Boss!

Like its sister system Immerse & Engage this is a great example of convergence – an IT Standards approach to AV infrastructure design.  We’ve designed a data network to carry HD AV signals…and because we can send the AV signals long distance, we gain the added advantage of being able to distribute them to anywhere the network goes. This is the secret to creating a truly flexible and therefore powerful system.

This project will become the world’s first installation of a Crestron 64x64 HDBaseT / HDMI Matrix.  It was a complicated solution and we planned and designed it in meticulous detail. The end result is a superior.

At InDesign we back our designs 100% promising our clients $0 in variations if we’ve designed and project managed the solution from the beginning. We’re proud to say, even though this was a massive installation we never had to dip into our pockets once – everything went to plan.
